PEKAN: Six family members in a brand new car were killed when their vehicle crashed head on with a trailer on Jalan Kuantan-Segamat.The Proton Iswara in which driver Norfaizah Mansor, 31, her four children Norsyahira Atika Saudi, 13, Norsufia Saudi, 10, Norsuhaila Saudi, seven, and Mohd Shahrul Amir Saudi, three, and her 14-year-old brother Mohd Saiful Anwar Mansor were travelling in on Monday night was bought a week ago. Pekan Deputy OCPD DSP Amran Sidek said the family were on their way to Pekan from Felda Keratong 2 in Muadzam Shah. He said the car collided with an oncoming trailer when Norfaizah was overtaking another vehicle.“The car went under the trailer, causing them to be trapped underneath. All died on the spot.” The trailer driver, aged 44, and his 43-year-old wife escaped with minor injuries. Norfaizah’s father, Mansor Hamid, 55, said that before his daughter bought the car, she drove his Perodua Kancil to work at a canteen in a palm oil plant in Felda Keratong.He said Norfaizah had just returned from work and had the new car serviced before leaving for Pekan at 6.30pm on Monday.“I was informed about the accident at 11pm,’’ said a devastated Mansor.Norfaizah’s mother, Arfah Sulong, 54, said Mohd Shahrul was very attached to his father, Saudi Sulaiman, 40.“Saudi works in Ibam (Rompin) and returns home once a week. He had planned to take his family for a holiday to Malacca this week,’’ she added.She said Norfaizah was supposed to attend a meeting in Pekan yesterday and would normally drive there in the morning. However, this time around, her daughter decided to go a day earlier and spend the night in Pekan, which is about two hours’ drive from Keratong, Arfah added.Saudi said he last spoke to his wife before she left for Pekan.“I had urged her to go to Pekan the next day. I was afraid something bad would happen to her and true enough, it did,’’ he said.
